Frequently Asked Questions

WHO WE SUPPLY
We supply Trade customers (framers, retailers, interior designers) in the UK and Europe. If you are a member of the public and are interested in something we offer then please contact us and we will point you in the direction of a retailer who can help you.

WHAT WE OFFER

PRINTS
All of our Prints are high quality reproductions that are produced on good quality paper stock using a variety of printing techniques to capture the details of the original works of art. The majority of prints we offer are open edition prints but we work with Publishers who publish Limited Edition prints and a Publisher who has an in-house studio that can produce hand-coloured (using the finest European watercolors and gouaches) and hand-embellished (using a variety of mediums and techniques to create three-dimensional artwork) prints.

PRINT ON DEMAND
Many of the Publishers we work with now offer Print on Demand. This means that you can select one of their images and have it produced on either paper or canvas (and also aluminium, acrylic and bamboo) to the size you (or your customer) wants. The only real limitation is that the size you choose must be in proportion to the original image. So if the original image is square, the size you choose must be square too. Some Publishers do offer a cropping service but this can be expensive.

Everything that you order as a Print on Demand item will arrive ‘rolled’ (with the exception of aluminium, acrylic and bamboo). So if it is on paper you can then frame it; if it is on canvas you can then stretch it using stretcher bars. If it is on canvas, the Publisher will as standard allow sufficient margin or border for you to use 2” stretcher bars – if you are looking to use wider stretcher bars then let us know when you place the order so we can ensure there will be sufficient border. The border will either be white or a ‘gallery wrap’ (where the image wraps around the side of the canvas). Some publishers offer other choices of colour – contact us if you are looking for a specific colour.

Print on Demand is more expensive than buying a print. This is because each order is dealt with and produced individually (rather than in batches of 500 or 1000) and the printing process is very high quality and therefore more costly. Printing costs are coming down slowly and we will reflect any changes in cost in future Price Lists.

Print on Demand is a great option when you have a customer or client looking for something special to put in a particular space or room.

PRINTS ON CANVAS
Nearly all of the prints that we offer can be supplied as a Print on Canvas, ready to hang.  To produce a Print on Canvas, we cover a 5cm deep rigid box with an off-white or cream coloured fine weave canvas or calico material. The corners are folded neatly for a crisp, clean finish. We then bond the print to the box frame using a glue which ensures a perfect and lasting bond. The edges of the print are then carefully finished so that it appears that the print and the box frame were always one item. Finally, a special protective coating is applied to the print; this not only protects the print but also enhances the colours. The finished item is designed to fit flush onto the wall and is a perfect look for any contemporary or stylish home. For more information, including pricing, please Contact Us.

PRINTS AS AN ARTBLOCK
The vast majority of prints that we offer can be supplied as a Print as an Art Block, ready to hang. To create a Print as an Art Block, the print is laminated and then applied to a high quality MDF board which has edges creating a box or block. The image is carried over onto the sides of the block and the edges are sharp and crisp giving a seamless and stunning effect to any image. In the process, the print is laminated which both protects it and allows it to be wiped clean. The completed Print as an Art Block is then individually wrapped for protection and comes ready to hang. COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT PRINT ON DEMAND

a) Which Publishers Offer Print on Demand?
The majority of Publishers we work with now offer Print on Demand. If you are looking at an image from a particular Publisher, please contact us to see if it is available as a Print on Demand.

b) Is Every Image The Publisher Offers Available As Print on Demand?
No, but the majority are. Certain artists will not allow it and if the piece is not actually published by the Publisher (for example some of the prints in the International Graphics catalogue) then it may not be available. Just check with us if you need to know for sure.

c) What Materials Are Available?
Paper and Canvas are the most popular options. Some Publishers also print on Aluminium, Acrylic and Bamboo – for more information about printing on these materials, please contact us.

Paper

The majority of publishers print on good quality paper of 200 – 250 GSM. This gives very high quality results. Some also offer the option of printing on Fine Art Paper which is generally a heavier stock and textured.

Canvas
All of our Publishers use high quality canvas. The majority offer at least two options – a canvas with a white border or a canvas with a gallery wrap border (where the image continues around the side). All allow sufficient border for the canvas to be stretched.

d) What Sizes Are Available?
For each publisher and type of material there is a maximum size that can be done using POD. This varies from publisher to publisher. Generally if you are looking for anything up to a size of say 130 x 130 cms there should be no problem. If you are looking for something larger than this or for something that is an unusual shape (say 140 x 10 cms), then please contact us to see if this is possible.

e) Can I Have Any Size or Shape?
Yes and no. Everything produced using Print on Demand must be in proportion to the original image. So if the original image is square (say 70 x 70 cms), you can have it produced as a POD in any square size you like (up to maximum size) – for example 40 x 40 cms or 120 x 120 cms. But you cannot have it as a 100 x 50 cms canvas. Some publishers will crop images but this can be expensive. Check with us to see if it possible and what the price would be if you need this doing.

f) How Do I Work Out The Size In Square Metres?
The price you will pay is based on the area of the image measured in square metres. To work out the square metre size for the size you want, multiply the desired width by height and then divide by 10,000. So for a 70 x 70 cms size, the calculation is: 70 x 70 / 10,000 = 0.49 square metres. If you need help working out the size in square metres, just contact us.

g) How Do I Get a Price For A Print on Demand Item?
Please contact us. We will be able to either send you a Price List or quickly give you a price for the specific image you are looking at.
